Natural Clear Quartz
Crystals have a long history of being used in healing. The theory behind the use of healings involves the energy flows in the body through the chakras. There are seven chakras in the body, each associated with different body systems and colours. Blockage of energy at the different chakras is associated with different conditions, physical, emotional, spiritual and mental. The energy is known as chi, ki, chula, animu, spirit or life force depending on the tradition being followed. The history of the use of crystals goes back a long way in time, with small gemstones and crystals having a long history of use as amulets, and talismans. A map of the location of the seven chakras and the specific colours, energies, body systems and conditions can be beneficial to your healing.
There are two approaches to modern crystal healing, in one the healer has a crystal that they cleanse and then imbue with intent before moving it around the affected chakras. In the other form different crystals are used for different chakras or illnesses. The aim of both methods is to cleanse the body of negative energy and to rebalance the body's energies through the chakras. This should lead to the curing of mental and physical symptoms. The crystals can be used in different ways. They may be laid on the body, worn as amulets, worn as jewelry, placed next to a bed or used in healing baths. If used in jewellery then round beads are recommended, with no metal settings, which can disrupt the energy.
The most commonly used crystal is clear quartz but coloured crystals may be used corresponding in colour to the chakras. The shape of the crystal is important as different shapes are said to resonate with different energy. It is these vibration rates that are said to change vibrational energy in the body and have a healing effect. Crystal healers care for their crystals carefully, cleansing them of negative energy often. Depending on the healer's beliefs this is done through prayer, ceremony or physical cleansing using moonlight or salt. The cleansed crystals are then kept in saline or in salt to keep negative energy away until they are ready for use.
Certain gemstones and crystals are associated with specific problems. Green fluorite, for example is recommended for hormone balance and treating PMS; jade is good for relaxation, both physical and mental and malachite is used to bring harmony into your life. The colours of the stones mean they can be used in colour therapy.
The theory behind the use of crystals and crystal wands is how the different colours relate to healing specific conditions.
No scientific study has been done on the efficacy of crystal healing, and mainstream medicine brushes aside any reports of it working as the product of the placebo effect or wishful thinking. It could be dangerous to rely on crystal healing to cure dangerous medical conditions but it can be used in conjunction with mainstream medicine, as it has no side effects or interactions, and at the very least will provide relaxation, which can be important for recovery.
All these different theories combined together as well as the use of massage and yoga in association with crystals is an aid in the treatment of different conditions, and the attainment of emotional wellbeing through energy balancing.
